We are delighted to be able to share with you an exciting new chapter in the story of the Centre for Leadership Performance

After almost 4 years with CfLP, Al Wilson is moving on to pastures new. While this is sad news for the team, we wish him well and know that he will continue to support and champion the work we do. Under his leadership the Centre has reached financial sustainability, achieved several business awards and delivered many rewarding contracts and projects; so it is with a mixture of appreciation and sadness we say goodbye and good luck.

New Roles

Al's departure has created an exciting opportunity for Sarah Glass and Catherine Eve to take over the leadership of the Centre. They took up their new roles as Executive Directors on 1 April. This collaborative approach to leadership reflects the Centre's ethos, values and strategy and maximises their complementary skills and experience.

Sarah has been with CfLP for 7 years and as such has built an extensive network of partners across business and education sectors and is already responsible for our innovative young people leadership programmes.

Catherine has worked as an associate to the Centre for 5 years, recently taking a more permanent role developing our bespoke leadership development capability.

New Strategy

These leadership changes coincide with the launch of our new 3 year strategy. This strategy builds on our commitment to Develop Cumbria's Leaders for Today and Tomorrow. It will see us strengthen delivery in areas we are already active in while also setting a new course, encouraging wider participation in leadership conversations, highlighting the importance of personal leadership and recognising the value in leadership collaboration.

We would love to talk to you about our plans and to hear your suggestions and comments about how we can help develop your leaders for today and tomorrow. If you would like to get in touch then give the Centre a call on 01900 824822.

Thank you for your ongoing support, we look forward to working with you in the future.

We wish to express our delight and thanks following the BEC Business Cluster Awards. It was such a fantastic evening that provided an opportunity to showcase all the amazing work going on throughout Cumbria with fellow cluster members. We were thrilled and honoured to have won the award for Collaboration!

The award recognises the value in collaboration and accurately reflects the ethos of the Centre, the aims of the Business Cluster and the spirit of the awards celebration. The room was lit up with stories of support, sharing and appreciation for the breadth and depth of business expertise in the county. The shared benefits of collaboration between private, public and not-for-profit organisations shone through.

As a small, not-for-profit organisation, with a core team of just five people, we could not do the breadth of work we do without the support and participation of our partners, suppliers, local businesses, young people, schools and colleges. So, this award for collaboration is not only for the Centre for Leadership Performance team, it is also for our interdependent network of stakeholders, working together to develop leadership capability in this fabulous county.

At the Centre for Leadership Performance we believe that the challenges facing many organisations — collaboration, innovation, talent and engagement — stand or fall on the quality of leadership.

Leadership proves, over and over again, to be the critical enabling factor.

We are a not-for-profit organisation working to support the growth of leadership capacity across Cumbria. This involves learning and development at all levels and across all sectors. We work with organisations, individuals and communities to support and nurture the leaders that Cumbria needs. Leaders who are:

  • Action-oriented: self-aware leaders who will improve organisational performance, profit and revenue
  • Committed: more likely to take actions that make a real difference
  • Able to engage, motivate and retain talent
  • Communicators: able to articulate goals and influence others to help achieve them

We do this in a number of ways:

  • Bespoke leadership consultancy for individual companies
  • Open leadership programmes and short courses
  • Bite sized sessions such as Leadership@Lunch and other leadership events and forums
  • Programmes for Young People: working with young people in Cumbria to encourage aspiration and their ambition for leadership roles. Current programmes include Bright Stars and Dream Placement

We Achieve Our Vision By:

Igniting aspiration and inspiring talent in individuals, teams and organisations across Cumbria through masterclasses and flagship events sponsored by partners who gain the full benefit from their involvement in these agenda-setting initiatives.

Stimulating demand and meeting the leadership and management development needs by enabling easy access to world-class providers. That extends to creating events specifically for a client or organisation, and running them in their workplace to maximise the impact and minimise disruption to normal working.

Encouraging networking and sharing of best practice between Cumbria firms and organisations through programmes such as Leader to Leader.

Nurturing the next generation of Cumbria's leaders through engagement with business and by demonstrating to young people of all ages how exciting and rewarding careers in Cumbrian businesses can be — giving them a new vision of their future.

The Centre for Leadership Performance is Cumbria's champion for business leadership excellence — delivering the support that the county's public and private sector companies and organisations need to compete effectively in regional, UK and worldwide markets.

Widely recognised for its highly acclaimed masterclasses and collaborative programmes with business, the Centre is also building a reputation for delivering practical and pragmatic support for managers and leaders who recognise the need to improve their skills and knowledge, and aspire to be the best.

We aim to provide that support through high quality coaching, action learning, expert workshops, mentoring, peer based learning and real time feedback delivered right here in Cumbria with our specialist partners and tailored to meet the specific needs of client companies or business sectors.
