Ennerdale School's Bright Stars Raise Cash

Ennerdale School

Working at the car wash were pupils from Ennerdale CE Primary School.

The youngsters earned over £230 by washing cars at the AECOM office in Whitehaven as part of this year's Bright Stars competition.

Organised by the Centre for Leadership Performance, each school is challenged to grow £50 as far as they can, over an eight-week period, with support from a local business.

With AECOM's help, the Ennerdale team has already made over £100 from a talent show, and will be holding a pancake sale on February 20.

Dave Weatherburn, of AECOM, said: "This is all about encouraging leadership and entrepreneurship from a young age and developing relationships between Cumbrian businesses and their local primary schools.

"AECOM is delighted to be teaming up with Ennerdale Primary and we have been bowled over at the enthusiasm and business sense of the children."

Ennerdale teacher, Louise Chamberlain, said: "I am really impressed by how hard the children are working. It's great to see our children from Year 2 to Year 6 working together as a team.

"Their leadership skills and creativity are really coming to life and they have taken ownership for each one of their projects. They are enjoying learning life-long skills. As one Year 3 pupil said 'small school, big minds!'"
