Leader to Leader Cohort 3 (April 2015)

We plan to run three cohorts this year with the next due to start in the Summer.

Leader to Leader Cohort 3 comprised senior leaders from Sellafield Ltd, Direct Rail Services, Ansaldo NES, GSK, Sealy UK and Story Contracting. The programme started in April when delegates met for the first time for an overnight experiential. The focus was for the group to get to know each other and build trust and introduce some of the elements to the programme.

What is Leader to Leader?

Leader to Leader is aimed at senior leaders who want to improve their performance. It has been designed and developed in consultation with Cumbrian businesses who said their leaders often lacked the opportunity to look outside of their own day-to-day work. In addition to the shadowing, the dynamic programme involves action learning, a consultancy challenge and on-going peer-to-peer learning allowing delegates to share ideas and best practice.

Ultimately it provides each individual with a better understanding of the type of leader they are, and the ways in which they need to grow. The group were united in their appreciation of the personal impact of Leader to Leader:

 
Consultancy Challenge

An important part of the course is to pose a consultancy challenge for the group. The outcome was the proposal for Cross Company Job Shadowing: on-the-job development which utilises direct and objective observation, asking why (open questions), immediate discussion and the exchange of best practices in order to promote growth and improvement among two peers employed in different industries.

The final element of the course involved a presentation by the group to enlist the support of sponsors from their employers, laying out how the Work Shadowing programme can benefit their companies, and proposals for expanding it across Cumbria and beyond.
