Our Approach

How we work

Conversation

All of our work starts with a conversation, we understand the needs of individuals and organisations through listening to them talk about what’s happening for them..

Inspire

These conversations inspire our ideas, help us to generate innovative and practical ways to meet these needs

Partnership

We like to work in partnership where we can, linking people and sharing ideas and creating value by working together to co-create solutions.

Sustainable

We prefer to work in a way that creates sustainable success for all involved, creating new infrastructure and networks that will continue to evolve to meet new needs.

Why work with us?

Network

You will be part of the conversation, joining a network that can provide you with information, support and inspiration.

Connect

We can help you connect with a wider community of local providers, celebrating and signposting what is already happening in Cumbria.

Benefit

By investing in one of our programmes you will not only receive a first-class service from a local employer, you also become a shareholder in the future leadership talent in Cumbria, we use our profits to develop leadership activities for young people.

This was our first year taking part in Dream Placement although we have previously worked with the CfLP on Bright Stars which has been very successful and enjoyable. Dream Placement is a really good way of raising our profile with young people in our region, and also drawing attention to recycling and waste management as a career, that otherwise perhaps wouldn’t be thought about by the students. Our placement student (Jesse) was fantastic – very interested and enthusiastic throughout the whole week, demonstrated by an excellent presentation of his project at the end of the week back to our business. He was taken to a number of our different sites during the week to show the nature and complexity of work we do around waste management and recycling as well as spending time in our offices with our people, to understand the customer journey.
Personally, I really enjoyed coaching and mentoring Jesse during his time with us; seeing the business through his eyes gave me a refreshing perspective on what we do, but also seeing his skills and confidence develop over the week was reward in itself

I have been involved with Bright Stars since its inception – first as a head teacher and then as
chair of the judging panel for the last two years. I have seen the scheme grow and also been able
to appreciate the tremendous value it offers to the children involved, to teachers and to the
companies supporting them.
Bright Stars enables the children to use a range of skills they learn in the classroom in a real
world scenario, working alongside adults from local businesses to broaden their experience and
knowledge.
A key element in Bright Stars is collaboration and the children are able to take on different roles
including leadership roles, which provide an excellent foundation for their future development,
building confidence in their own abilities, and their aspirations for the future.
Companies taking part are having a hugely positive impact on these children, and the company
representatives rightly take a great deal of pride in their involvement.
