Supplier Event December 4, 2012

On December 4, the Centre for Leadership Performance welcomed over 70 training providers, business mentors and coaches to a Supplier Event at Energus.

The evening kicked off with wine and light bites and the chance for delegates to network. Introductory presentations were given by Sharon Nixon and Al Mather about the CfLP's origins and current work. This was followed by the guest speaker, Dr Steve Kempster, Director of Leadership Development from Lancaster University, who gave a very interesting and thought provoking talk based on his recent paper Leadership as purpose: Exploring the role of purpose in leadership practice. Click here to see an abstract of this paper.

The talk offered an unusual and enticing opportunity for academic theory to meet practical delivery face to face and, after the talk, delegates were encouraged to discuss the issues raised by Steve, specifically to explore the question, "if we assume that purpose and responsible leadership are significant, how do we as training providers, mentors and coaches, think this should be developed?" This generated some interesting feedback which has continued over email since the event.

After the feedback, Al and Sharon gave presentations about future opportunities and the next steps for suppliers interested in working with CfLP. (Click here for more information for suppliers interested in getting involved with CfLP.)

The event was a great success and possibly unique in having so many delegates from the same area of work at the same place. Many said they found it a great chance to catch up with old friends and colleagues, exchange ideas and make new contacts. The Centre hopes to run different types of supplier-based events in the future, so watch this space!
