OVERVIEW

Raising the aspiration and confidence of Cumbria’s young people is a vital part of the CfLP’s work. The Centre works with leaders already in place to further develop their leadership skills but also we believe that supporting the talents of all our young people is vital for the future economy here in Cumbria.

You are eligible to apply for Dream Placement 2020 if you…

  • Live in Cumbria or be in full-time education in Cumbria
  • Be aged between 16 and 18 on December 7, 2019
  • Be available to attend all the following events on the dates specified below:
  • Selection Event — Thursday December 5, 2019
  • Development Day — Saturday January 25, 2020
  • Placement Week — Monday 17th to Friday 21st February 2020
  • Showcase Event — Thursday March 19, 2020

The Dream Placement scheme is a competitive scheme so there are no guarantees that you will be placed with a host company. However, we do work hard to place as many students as possible with a company. The most important thing you can do to help your chances is make sure your application is well written and demonstrates your enthusiasm.

The exact content of the placement week will vary depending on which host company you are placed with and what you are interested in. However, all placements will include the opportunity to experience leadership in action and to learn what Cumbria’s employers have to offer for capable and ambitious young people.

The whole programme involves a total of at least 8 days of activities. If your application is short-listed, you will be invited to attend a Selection Event (1 day). If you are selected then you will be expected to attend a Development Day (1 day). The placement itself will happen over the Spring half-term 2020 (5 days). And finally, all students are encouraged to attend a Showcase Event (1 day). You may also be invited by your host company to visit their premises in the lead up to the Placement Week.

No, but some host companies are able to assist with travel expenses and other costs that you may incur whilst on placement. Please contact CfLP if you have any questions about this.

There is no requirement for the host companies to offer a job after the placement finishes. However, the placement gives you the chance to show the host company what your strengths are, and occasionally placement students are offered jobs, internships or apprenticeships. Most importantly, you can use the whole Dream Placement experience to enhance your CV and make you stand out at interview or selection process in the future.

If you have any other questions about Dream Placement please email info@cforlp.org.uk or call 01900 824 822.
