Dan’s #MyDreamPlacementJourney

“I originally took part in 2022’s Dream Placement, helping run a forum for the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, where I got my first real taste of media experience by running a small campaign to promote a public forum they were hosting the following week. As Dream Placement alumni, I was asked to return as a speaker for 2024’s Dream Placement, where I gave a talk to the cohort about my journey post Dream Placement and how they could best capitalise on the opportunity, such as using LinkedIn.

Dream Placement gave me the initial experience that led to me getting an apprentice at the BBC, which I believe I would not have got without that experience to back up my passion for the media industry.

I really enjoyed my Dream Placement back in 2022, not only was it good fun but it was a great bit of experience that has led to me landing a job on BBC Breakfast here in Manchester following my apprenticeship and getting to work with such great people across the county.

Due to my experience at the BBC, I was asked to return to film and photograph the final ceremony at Lakes College, where I shot and edited a montage, took some photos, and interviewed a few of the guests. I volunteered as I wanted to support a scheme which helps young people, as it helped me, while also helping me network with new people and build relationships. This has led to other schools and organisations reaching out to me so I could speak to young people about my journey post-6th Form and what advice I would offer to the next generation.”
