Students join #TeamStory on Dream Placement

This week, four students have joined #TeamStory on Dream Placement, ran by the Centre for Leadership Performance.

Dream Placement is Cumbria’s unique leadership and business experience programme organised by the Centre for Leadership Performance in collaboration with companies, schools and colleges, and funded by local businesses.

The students have been joined by Sophie Fisk, Anya Mercer, Ben Holliday and Ollie Smillie who have integrated into different teams such as Comms & Engagement, Geotech, Estimating and the Story England Project team.

“This week has left me feeling more interested in career paths in general and I have loved being in a new environment which has pushed me out of my comfort zone. I would love to be a part of Team Story in the future!” Sophie Fisk

Ben and Ollie have spent this week exploring different potential careers whilst on site and have really enjoyed experiencing a ‘family-like work place’, describing their teams as ‘inclusive’ and giving them an ‘eye-opening experience’.

Ollie said, “I have found it really interesting to see how the divisions work  and how the company operates as a whole when it is so spread out across the country.”

Update written by Sophie Fisk, Dream Placement student.

Dream Placement was co-created with businesses and educators ten years ago to address the talent drain out of Cumbria and to help young people see the breadth of amazing opportunities across the county, while building confidence and self-belief, and developing key leadership skills. The inclusive scheme extends high quality placements to everyone whereas often young people secure these opportunities only through family connections.

All of the young people who applied for Dream Placement 2023 continue to be supported through Cumbria Future Leaders which provides opportunities to engage with other young people and business leaders, and access the Your Future:Here brokerage developed with funding from Sellafield Ltd.

The CFL active youth network to support 16-25 year olds now involves almost 1000 young people connecting and brokering links with employers and involving other groups for dialogue and discussions.
