We are proud to be working on behalf of Sellafield Ltd to deliver the innovative work awareness programme Elements, that in 2023 saw 71 students from 6 different schools come together with 24 employees from Sellafield Ltd and the supply chain to work on a challenge that required an engineering solution. While taking part in the 1 week programme, young people in their teams are focused on providing a technical solution or recommendation to their ‘client’ they are also benefiting from intensive support to develop leadership, collaboration, creativity and resilience skills, provided by CforLP whilst gaining an insight into careers at Sellafield and the skills required.
Engineering skills and the potential for using digital and innovative technology including robotics was included in the scope of the Elements 2023 work awareness programme developed for Sellafield Ltd to involve Year 10 and Year 12 students in Copeland and Allerdale.
There was a focus on raising awareness of critical skills needs, in particular Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), allowing individuals to access opportunities and to understand the breadth of career opportunities within Sellafield Ltd and the wider supply chain.
Representatives from Sellafield Ltd and Tier 2 supply chain companies delivered sessions against their areas of expertise. They are designed to raise awareness of the range of disciplines, job roles and capabilities that are required within the nuclear sector. Young people also gained opportunities to develop wide-ranging skills including leadership, teamwork, problem solving and communication.
