▸ How likely is it that I will get a placement?
The Dream Placement scheme is a competitive scheme so there are no guarantees that you will be placed with a host company. However, we do work hard to place as many students as possible with a company. The most important thing you can do to help your chances is make sure your application is well written and demonstrates your enthusiasm.
▸ What will I do on placement?
The exact content of the placement week will vary depending on which host company you are placed with and what you are interested in. However, all placements will include the opportunity to experience leadership in action and to learn what Cumbria’s employers have to offer for capable and ambitious young people.
▸ What will I need to commit to?
The whole programme involves a total of at least 8 days of activities. If your application is short-listed, you will be invited to attend a Selection Event (1 day). If you are selected then you will be expected to attend a Development Day (1 day). The placement itself will happen over the Spring half-term 2021 (5 days). And finally, all students are encouraged to attend a Showcase Event (1 day). You may also be invited by your host company to visit their premises in the lead up to the Placement Week.
▸ Will I get paid whilst on placement?
No, but some host companies are able to assist with travel expenses and other costs that you may incur whilst on placement. Please contact CfLP if you have any questions about this.
▸ Will I get a job after the placement?
There is no requirement for the host companies to offer a job after the placement finishes. However, the placement gives you the chance to show the host company what your strengths are, and occasionally placement students are offered jobs, internships or apprenticeships. Most importantly, you can use the whole Dream Placement experience to enhance your CV and make you stand out at interview or selection process in the future.
