Sarah has been based in Cumbria for more than 15 years, originally moving to the county to run her own successful hotel and restaurant business, she has a particular affinity with SMEs and the challenge of running a small business. Prior to relocating she spent several years in sales and marketing predominantly in travel and property sectors.
With two sons of her own, she’s a fierce champion of education in the county and has driven the pioneering work of the Centre in forging links between schools and business. The centre also designs and delivers fully project-managed programmes that encourage engagement between local employers and young people to help them recognise the career opportunities within Cumbria and beyond.
Sarah leads on all the Centre’s school engagement programmes and is responsible for the successful Dream Placement and Bright Stars programmes, year 10 work experience programmes and Primary Business Partnership. Developing the Centre’s wide connections with businesses, educators and young people across Cumbria is key to this success.
She says: “I believe passionately in building and developing local leadership skills that will be key to the continued success of businesses in the area and vital for growing new ones. I want to make a difference to the lives of young people, and through the work we do at the centre it’s vital that we bring organisations together with young people to nurture their aspirations, develop their confidence and leadership skills and show them breadth of fantastic opportunities the county has to offer. Everything we do at the centre is about collaboration and developing people from primary school pupils and teenagers right through to team leaders and senior management. It is a very exciting time for the Centre.”
