Working with Young People

We are passionate about nurturing and developing the talents and aspirations of young people throughout their learning journey. Discover the wide range of programmes and activities that the Centre for Leadership Performance delivers to inspire young leaders.

Programmes for
Primary Pupils

Bright Stars Primary is a county-wide programme open to all primary schools across Cumbria. This 8-week mini competition is FREE to schools and funded by local businesses and organisations across Cumbria. The programme challenges the children to ‘make a difference’ and ‘make a profit’. It offers amazing opportunities for budding entrepreneurs to work alongside businesses developing their own ideas and enthusiasm into fully-fledged social enterprises whilst building aspirations, confidence and self-belief as they showcase hidden talents.

Primary Business Partnership

The Primary Business Partnership (PBP) provides a FREE matchmaking and signposting service between primary schools and businesses in Allerdale and Copeland. It supports career related learning in the class room and inspires the next generation of young people to DREAM BIG about their future and helps local primary schools and businesses forge greater links.

The programme is funded by OneAIM and Sellafield Limited and delivered by the CforLP which means that the service is FREE to both the schools and businesses which want to take part.

Programmes for
Early Careers, 18-30

It can be tricky to navigate your way from education into the workplace and our Early Career support helps young people to make connections, find information, develop relevant skills and have their voices heard. We provide a FREE signposting and matchmaking service as well as development programmes, mentoring and the chance to connect with a broader network of opportunities. We believe it is vital that young people have the chance to engage with emerging issues in the county and help to shape their own futures through initiatives including Cumbria Future Leaders.

Programmes for
Young People, 13-18 Years

Working in collaboration with local businesses and organisations CforLP has created a range of programmes and interventions that develop the life skills of young people. The aim is to build confidence and aspirations in readiness for their future careers and provide leadership opportunities, working alongside local employers on real world challenges to share learning and ideas. Activities include leadership masterclasses, enterprise schemes, social action and campaigning programmes and high-quality work awareness and leadership programmes including ProjX and Dream Placement. We also offer a free signposting and matchmaking service for 16-18 year olds, creating a “one stop” place to access information and opportunities and support networks.
